We've reached the end of week 1 of online learning! I know it's been a bit of a learning curve for all of us - so proud of you!

The main thing today is to make sure that you've caught up with everything for this week. Check that everything that's supposed to be submitted has been (remember that the narrative and newspaper article should have been finished and ready to submit a week ago, so you should already have been done!) and that you're up-to-date with the math lessons and practice work. Please also make sure that Weekly Math 22 has been done and submitted, as well as the two Iroquois Questions.

Language Arts

- Independent Reading - 20 minutes

- Read-aloud - chapter 11. (Google Classroom).

- We'll have our Vocabulary 9 assessment next Friday. Make sure you know how to use those words in different sentences in your own words! Practice using them in your conversations at home!

Math

- Make sure you understand the concepts from the "Bears in a Bag" lessons. Those lessons are meant to help you visualize the math equations so that you can understand more clearly how the equations work. We'll move into the numeric problem-solving process next week, and it'll be much easier if you understand this week's work!

- For those of you who would like some extra practice, I have included a practice sheet under "Extras."

Science

- Log into Solaro with your library number and PIN. Go to: Grade 6 - Science - Air and Aerodynamics - Air exerts pressure. If you are able to do the activity, make sure you have your parents permission first. If you are not able to do the activity, simply read through it. Link.

Instructions for Peer-Editing:

On Google Classroom under Language Arts there is an uploaded task called "Peer Edit for Narrative."

Step 1: Share you narrative with some peers of choice (2-3 if possible). When you share, MAKE SURE YOU SHARE UNDER THE COMMENT SETTING AND NOT THE EDIT ONE. YOU DO NOT WANT SOMEONE TO BE ABLE TO CHANGE YOUR WORK.

Step 2: Edit each other's work by COMMENTING on it. Specifically look for:

  • hook/ engagement of intended audience

  • well-organized beginning, middle, end, problem, solution

  • character development (for example, Squeaky caring more about Raymond's success and happiness at the end of Raymond's Run)

  • sentence fluency - do they make sense? Do they go together?

  • varied sentences (some shorter, some longer depending on the message/ mood)

  • capitals and punctuation

  • paragraphs

  • indentation of paragraphs and dialogue

  • font: Arial or Times New Roman, size 12 or 14

  • double spacing

Step 3: Give your peer at least three stars (things you feel they did well) and two stairs (things they might want to look at editing/ tweaking)

Step 4: After commenting on your peers' work, go to the "Peer Edit for Narrative" on Google Classroom and fill out the form, then press the submit button. Do this for each peer you edit for.

Bonjour!

For this week, let's keep moving forward in our learning with the following:

  • Weekly Math. Click to view and print  a PDF. Please complete, take a photo of your problem-solving (with all of the thinking and processes shown!) and send it to me by email (mwebster@cesd73.ca). Remember to include your name!

__________

  • A quick-write prompt (give yourself 5 minutes to write, then take a photo and send it to me): Think about your favourite place. See the sights, hear the sounds, smell the air, feel the textures. Describe it to me so that I can see, hear, smell and feel what you do.

__________

  • If you are  not finished writing your narrative and/ or your newspaper article, please do so. The due date is extended, but I will still be asking you to submit them! (But not yet.)

Merci!
