Cutting Corners.jpg

The solution to this Rebus Puzzle is "cutting corners," a common phrase we use to mean "taking damaging shortcuts with work etc."

Head over Heels.jpg

Notice how the word "head" is at the top and the word "heels" is at the bottom with a line in between? The solution to this Rebus Puzzle is "Head over Heels." We use this phrase to represent strong affection, such as: I am head over heels in love with this yogurt!

Bonjour! Comment-ca-va? It was great to "see" you yesterday!

Language Arts:

- Independent Reading - 20 minutes. Read a (at least) paragraph out loud to a listener today! Pay attention to fluency (reading smoothly), pausing at commas/ stopping at periods and expression!

- Read-aloud - chapter 20. Google Classroom. Shared with permission from Scholastic.

- Continue self-directed research. Some tips:

  • Start by Googling key search phrases such as: "kids who create change," or "youth activists" or "teen activists" or "kids making a difference" etc.

  • If you want to look at Canadians in particular, you can Google things like: "Canadian kids who make a difference," or "Canadian Youth Activists."

  • Remember to keep track of your sources (think about our class discussions about this!) Keep a running record on a Google Doc where you copy and paste websites you've jotted notes from. I would have a research doc, jot down the title of the website/ article/ etc., link the URL (or copy and paste it in) and then use bullets to jot notes from that source underneath. That way, everything is together, organized and easily accessible. Prepare to share some big ideas at today's Google Meet.

  • Remember that you don't have to spend a ton of time doing this! 15-20 minutes each day should suffice, as long as you are focused and getting stuff done. If you do this consistently every day, that 15-20 minutes will build up to quite a nice bank of research/ jot notes over time!

Bonjour! Comment-ca-va? Remember, we have our Google Meet Conferences today! Looking forward to seeing you!

Language Arts:

- Independent Reading - 20 minutes

- Read-aloud - chapter 19. Google Classroom. Shared with permission from Scholastic.

- Continue self-directed research. Some research tips:

  • Start by Googling key search phrases such as: "kids who create change," or "youth activists" or "teen activists" or "kids making a difference" etc.

  • If you want to look at Canadians in particular, you can Google things like: "Canadian kids who make a difference," or "Canadian Youth Activists."

That way, everything is together, organized and easily accessible. Prepare to share some big ideas at today's Google Meet.

- Make sure you practice the Synonym List! A great way to do this is to use these words in your daily conversations. An example would be that instead of saying "I am going to the pantry to get some popcorn," you could say "I am going to the pantry to procure some popcorn." Note that "to procure" something usually means that you get something with effort, but it will still work in the sentence example I just gave.
